Florida is a popular tourist destination. There are great amusement parks, beaches, food, and—for Russians—great places to deliver their babies. It’s a popular trend among wealthy Russians. They go to America for delivery so that their children will have American citizenship. Not only does this practice have a name, “birth tourism,” but it’s a growing industry. And Donald Trump’s properties are right in the center of it.
SVM-MED, a Miami birth tourism company, offers three packages to their clients, and two of them advertise a stay in Trump Towers.
Miami-Boom, another birth tourism business, had an apartment at Trump Royale. A third company, Sunshine Baby, advertises that they have luxury condos, “some of which, like Trump Towers, were created by American multi-billionaire Donald Trump himself!”
Status-Med, yet another company that has offices in Moscow and Miami, rents a Trump Royale penthouse for $7000 a month. Sunny Medical Center, affiliated with Status-Med, helps organize health and recreation for the expectant mothers. According to owner Vera Muzyka, a Trump condo is in high demand. “And also, the name Melania has become very popular,” she added.
Of course, Trump is not a fan of “anchor babies,” and not only made deporting them a campaign promise, but recently made plans to rescind DACA, which gave citizenship to undocumented immigrants who spent their lives in America. “I don’t think they have American citizenship and if you speak to some very, very good lawyers—and I know some will disagree, but many of them agree with me—and you’re going to find they do not have American citizenship,” Trump told Bill O’Reilly. “We have to start a process where we take back our country. Our country is going to hell.”
So will Trump shut down companies if they are renting his properties for people using them for birth tourism, or will he turn a blind eye because they are rich Russians?
Probably the latter.
